I wanted to alert fellow F-Mers to a wonderful concert coming their way
soon: Monsters of Folk featuring Dave Alvin (O my hero!), Chris Smither,
Ramblin' Jack and Tom Russell. I had never seen any of them live before (my
loss) and they were all a revelation in totally different ways when I saw
them at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle (not a seat to be had anywhere in the
house!). My special love is Alvin, so I was disappointed I didn't get to
hear more of his exquisite songs from King of California (if you don't have
it, get it!). If the tour makes its way east, I hope you easterners will
make an effort to hear Russell and Alvin, whose music has a distinctive
California folk/country sound. They're definitely underappreciated
musically outside of the west I think. Ramblin' Jack did some great old
traditional country and Dylan tunes-the man's a walking history of the
people's music! They all were great. It was a fabulous and historic
concert.
