At Appel Farm's Festival Saturday, the day was a delight. The Indigo
Girls, Moxy Fruvous and other performers were fun to see, the weather was
great, the temperature never hit 80, and the skies were clear. And the
biggest Appel Farm crowd ever was managable.

So, the highlights? The Heartbeats album Spinning World. No, The
Heartbeats weren't there, but their album was. It was played over the PA
system while the stage was being set up for Moxy. And The Heartbeats
songs sounded just wonderful - full, vivacious, strong and joyous. They
remind me of the best of upbeat McGarrigle songs.

I'd rather venues not play recorded music between acts. It's time to
visit, hustle, score, whatever. We don't need constant music, do we?
But if we must hear something recorded, we can't do better than The
Heartbeats.

So, whatever happened to The Heartbeats? Still beating?
