I purchased the Chris Knight cd about a month ago and have been playing it
almost everyday. Although his music is closer to rock than folk; the lyrics
are all country/folk = each a story song and dark---very dark, but wonderful.
We had the privilege of seeing/hearing Chris the other night at Johnny D's
Somverville. I would say that 99% of the crowd was there to see Richard
Buckner but the were lovin' Chris! If you get a chance check him out.

As we were leaving we saw a poster stating that Kevin Welch will be
performing there this month!!!
Kevin Welch is (one of the Dead Reckoners) an absolute fantastic
songwriter ----- his songs will soothe and stir your soul. He has
a signature voice like no other. I have heard he is working on a new
album------I hope with all my heart that he will "try out" a few of his new
songs
on the crowd.

This was posted on the Johnny D's flyer:
"This is a solo performance, but anyone who saw country folk/rocker Kevin
Welch open for Joe Ely a few years ago knows he can create plenty of energy
all by himself. One of the founders of Dead Reckoning Records
(http://www.songs.deadreck), Kevin had two critically acclaimed recordings -
"Kevin Welch" and "Western Beat" - on Warner Reprise. Now Dead Reckoning has
seen fit to make those wonderful albums available again with their April
reissue. ".......one of country pop's most affecting, distinctive voices this
side of
Jimmie Dale Gilmore." People magazine

Kevin also has a cd "Life Down Here On Earth" that has remained
in my cd player since 1995........it is played in our house constantly.
A touch of celtic/country with lyrics to die for:-)
Are there any Kevin Welch fans here?
Thanks for letting me share this information.

Renee

[Alan sez: I have the first two Kevin Welch records and they've both
received a lot of play at my house. I've never seen the 3rd one in stores,
but I keep looking for it. Kevin is also a great live performer. Well worth
checking out.]
