Hey Folks,

I think I neglected to post information on the ìFolkScene Collectionî when I
posted on Guy Davis and the discs from Appleseed Recordings (Cordeliaís Dad
and Casey Neill). Terribly sorry.

And Red House Records' second release for April:

"The FolkScene Collection:

RHR 109 * available on CD only.

It's Sunday evening in Los Angeles and you turn on your radio to hear Iris
DeMent do an especially heartbreaking live version of "Our Town;" or it's John
Gorka doing a song you've never heard before; or it's Bruce Cockburn, Richard
Thompson, Lowen & Navarro, or Dar Williams--and you know you're listening to
KPFK's "FolkScene" because there is nothing else on the radio like this. For
twenty-eight years, Roz and Howard Larman have presented "FolkScene," and with
their warmth, knowledge, passion, and commitment to acoustic, folk and roots
music, they have become legends in American folk radio. More than 1,500 guests
have joined them--virtually every major artist in the folk world and many from
the country, pop and rock scene as well--and they have helped launch more than
a few careers.

"The FolkScene Collection: From the Heart of Studio A" showcases some of the
best performances from "FolkScene's" past decade on the air. The artists
featured here are David Wilcox, Dave Alvin, Iris DeMent, Lowen & Navarro, Kate
and Anna McGarrigle, Bruce Cockburn, Dar Williams, Dillon O'Brian, Maura
O'Connell, John Gorka, Tish Hinojosa, Richard Thompson and Mary Black. While
the talent on this disc is amazing, it's only a small sampling of the artists
who have appeared on the show. The performers that Roz and Howard and crew
have captured in their studios or at venues around Southern California have
included Dwight Yoakam, Kate Wolf, Shawn Colvin, Steve Goodman, Patsy Montana,
Rodney Crowell, the Blasters, George Winston, Malvina Reynolds, Jean Ritchie,
Randy Newman, Nanci Griffith, Rosie Flores, Stefan Grossman, Roseanne Cash,
Loreena McKennitt, Michael Nesmith, Mance Lipscomb, Michael Martin Murphy,
Kinky Friedman, Tom Waits, Ricky Skaggs, T-Bone Burnett, Sonny Terry, Brownie
McGhee, and Vince Gill, to name only a few.

The performances on "The FolkScene Collection" have a remarkable, audiophile
quality. The artists sound like they're performing in your living room. This
seems miraculous as they were recorded live, while being broadcast all over
Southern California. This rich, intimate sound, capturing every nuance of the
performance, comes from the nurturing yet high-tech environment that Roz and
Howard provide. With the inestimable help of engineers Peter Cutler and Allen
Larman, and electronics designer Steve Barker, they have made "FolkScene" the
best recorded and engineered music program of its type.

The album is also a tribute to the listeners of KPFK who have supported
"FolkScene" for so long. It's a testament to the fact that in the middle of
the huge Los Angeles music scene there is a sizeable and dedicated audience
for folk and acoustic music. And to keep the music alive for the performers
and their audience, a portion of the profits from this album will go to
benefit "FolkScene."
