Red House Records signs Stephen Fearing

Red House Records is delighted to announce the signing of acclaimed Canadian
musician Stephen Fearing for United States distribution. With fifteen years of
touring on the club, theater and festival circuit, five albums, and five Juno
Nominations (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy), Fearing joins the Red
House roster as a seasoned veteran. As a songwriter, Fearing draws on musical
influences that include contemporary acoustic, traditional folk, Celtic,
Country, Blues, Gospel, and Jazz. He is also a stunning guitar player whose
instrumental work is intricate and innovative, and he has a smooth, rich
baritone that is by turns intimate and astonishingly powerful.

"Industrial Lullaby," Fearing's first Red House release (and his most recent
Juno nominee) will hit stores in July. It has already earned substantial
praise in Canada, with critics consistently calling this his "breakthrough"
album. The Toronto "Globe and Mail" praised the songs on "Industrial Lullaby,"
calling them "dense and richly hued works which merit the comparison to
England's eclectic and beguiling [Richard] Thompson," while Montreal's "Hour"
noted an "inventive finesse that results in a series of 13 startling
portraits." Most of the album cuts have Fearing fronting a full rock band,
while some feature a stripped-down sound that highlights his voice and lyrics.
Others, especially his instrumentals, show his innate sense of the lyricism
and timelessness of traditional music. The supporting players, which include
the Cowboy Junkies' Margo Timmins, the Band's Richard Bell, Junkhouse's Tom
Wilson, and Bruce Cockburn, are a perfect complement to Fearing's talents and
a "who's who" of exceptional Canadian talent.

Fearing's US tours will be directed by Fleming, Tamulevich & Associates, the
premier booking agency in acoustic music and the representatives of such
talents as Ani DiFranco, Greg Brown, Dar Williams, John Gorka, Dougie MacLean,
June Tabor, and Lucy Kaplansky. With extensive tours and strong US
distribution, Fearing is poised to become a major presence on this side of the
border. And the timing is perfect--as the Toronto "Star" recently proclaimed,
Fearing is "just arriving at his creative peak."
