I don't know why, but I went to Tower Records last week and bought "The
Byrds - 20 Essential Tracks from the Boxed Set: 1965-1990". And I know
that this isn't an oldies list, but I think a little discussion of The
Byrds belongs here. Their sound is pure harmony, with voices and guitars
blending beautifully.

They took "He Was A Friend of Mine" and attached the JFK assassination to
the friend idea - kinda schmaltzy, and considering the recent JFK
revelations, I'm not sure it works. But it's a nice idea, and musically
it's great. "My Back Pages" and "Chestnut Mare" stand out for me as just
wonderful - it's the perfect blend of folk with electric instruments.

So, my question is: Has anyone seen Roger McGuinn in concert recently,
and what kind of show does he do? Oldies? Interesting new material?
Stage patter? Voice? How does he fare as a solo act?

Thanks in advance for your replies. David Broida
